PhotoDebates

PhotoDebates (Fotodebates: an Educational, Awareness-Raising, and Transformative Methodology) is an international Erasmus+ “KA2 Small-scale Partnerships in School Education” project that combines photography and debate in classrooms, with the aim of helping young people develop critical thinking in a more creative way. The project encourages youth to actively participate in discussions on important social issues by linking visual materials with structured dialogue.
As part of the project, a short handbook was developed with ideas for lessons that integrate these elements. Towards the end of the project, an online photography exhibition was held on a specially created platform, featuring photos taken by students based on the prepared lesson plans.

The project involves both debate and photography clubs. Mentors use the students’ photographs to spark engaging discussions and broaden perspectives on the topics represented in the images. The project is the result of extensive international collaboration with Spanish civil society organizations. Partners include Za in Proti – Institute for the Culture of Dialogue (Slovenia), Fundación Educativa Activa-t (Spain), Associazione Società Nazionale Debate Italia (Italy), with coordination provided by the Spanish organization Fundación Mainel.

For the evaluation and integration of the developed methods into teaching, we collaborated with 18 Slovenian schools. You can view the online photo exhibition here: https://photodebates.net/sl/razstava/. The photos reflect young people’s perspectives on the Sustainable Development Goals.

A project partner meeting also took place in Valencia, attended by Ivan Koruza and Nuša Stamejčič.
