MELITA: Teaching Media Literacy for Students and Teachers
MeLitA (Media Literacy Analytics) aims to provide teachers with digital tools and knowledge for effective teaching of media and information literacy in an online environment. At a time when misinformation and fake news spread rapidly during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is essential to develop engaging pedagogical approaches and digital tools that help young people critically evaluate media content.
The project brings together the partners’ expertise in debate methodology, which is used to enhance existing approaches to media literacy and adapt them for online use. In doing so, it promotes open dialogue, understanding of diverse perspectives, and critical thinking, thereby reducing the risk of young people becoming trapped in “echo chambers” and radicalization.
Main project outcomes:
- a pedagogical strategy addressing contemporary media literacy needs,
- a methodological handbook for teaching through collaborative debate methodology,
- a practical teaching toolkit for implementation in various settings,
an interactive e-learning platform for online teaching and learning.
Contribution of Za in Proti:
The working group for this project was led by Jure Kreft in the first year, with Nuša Stamejčič taking over leadership in June 2022. The texts were prepared by Matevž Rezman Tasič, Matija Pušnik, and Nuša Stamejčič. In spring 2023, we organized eight multiplier events (Kranj, Celje, Ormož, Izola, Ljubljana, Renče, Maribor, and Kranjska Gora), where we presented the handbook and digital platform to 96 teachers.
