International Debate Tournament Ljutomer 2022
March 11th to 16th 2022
The Slovenian national debate organization, Za in proti, zavod za kulturo dialoga/Pro et contra, Institute for culture of dialogue and high school Gimnazija Franca Miklošiča Ljutomer kindly invite you to the 20th International Worlds School Debate Tournament Ljutomer 2022 – online version – which will happen between the 11th – 16th of March 2022.
Format and rules
All debates will be in English in the Worlds Schools Debate Format and they will be held online (on Zoom). Rounds will be power paired. The Tournament is open to all debaters debating at the high school level, representing their school, debate organization or nation. RULES AND FEES Teams can have 3 – 5 debaters. Each team needs to register a judge, we are imposing a n=judge rule (1 team/1 judge, 2 teams/2 judges, 3 teams/3 judges …). Judges need to be available for all rounds.
A global competition
As we expect teams from all over the world we are planning to have 2 divisions depending on time zones you are in, e.g. one for Asia, Oceania, Middle East, part of Europe and Africa; the second one for part of Europe, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America. There will be two rounds per day for pre-elimination rounds from Friday to Sunday, March 11 – 13. Elimination rounds (depending on the number of teams double octos or octos to finals) will happen from Monday, the 14th to Wednesday the 16th of March. A more detailed schedule follows after registration closes.
Registration and fees
The registration fee is 20 EUR per debater. There is no registration fee for judges. However, there is a 50 EUR penalty for each missing judge. Registration is officially open. Please, fill the registration form as soon as possible but no later than January 31st 2022.
In case more teams than we can accomodate register, we reserve the right to limit the number of teams per delegation. Teams secure their spots after we receive the registration fee payment / the invoices will be sent to registered institutions after registration deadline.
Registration fee waivers
We have some registration fee waivers available for teams which usually can not participate at global debate tournaments due to different barriers they face, especially teams from underrepresented regions like Africa, the Caribbean & South America. Teams can ask for debaters registration fee waiver or for a waiver of the missing judge penalty and they need to fill the registration waiver form in the registration form.
